What is School Readiness — GrowingTogether

A school readiness checklist can include skills like a child’s motor skills, independence, and ability to follow instructions. 

 
Motor skills 

 
    • Jumping with both feet together
    • Hopping on one foot
    • Skipping
    • Following a moving object with their eyes
    • Moving each finger independently
  • Balancing on one foot for 10 seconds
Independence Putting on their own shoes, Writing their name, Answering questions accurately, Cutting paper with scissors, and Sharing toys. 

 
Other skills 

 
  • Ordering numbers from one to ten
  • Dressing and undressing for PE
  • Eating at the table using a knife, fork, and spoon
  • Drinking from an open cup
  • Tidying and looking after their belongings
School readiness in general
School readiness is about giving children a range of knowledge and skills that will help them progress in school and life. 

 
Tips for school readiness
  • Support your child’s independence by making sure they are comfortable doing simple tasks by themselves. 
     
  • Encourage your child to try new foods. 

Please try not to worry just think back at the first time they started Barnabee’s, they have grown into a confident independent child, they will soon do the same at big school.
