The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) aims to help children develop early literacy and math skills.
Literacy
- Storytelling and reading: Encourage children to develop a love of reading through group reading and storytelling
- Letter knowledge: Help children learn letter sounds and phonics, write your child’s name onto a piece of paper and include their photograph on it, do this with all the families name and photograph for them to find who you ask for, find me you, find me daddy, as they get more confident remove the photograph off their own name card and ask them to find it, only start with two names to choose from, then move into more. This is a great game for their preparation to school, knowing their name.
- Writing: Introduce children to different types of writing
Maths
- Counting: Help children develop counting skills
- Numbers: Help children understand and use numbers
- Addition and subtraction: Help children calculate simple addition and subtraction problems
- Shapes, spaces, and measures: Help children describe shapes, spaces, and measures
