Big Bee’s is for our older children from 3-4 years old, its a large spacious room and the activities are planned around a Topic for the term and also incorporates children’s interests.
This room is where we look at their preparation to big school. We want their transition to their chosen school to be a smooth process. We will support them to be confident and understand the world around them, by providing them with an enriched environment.
On their last term we invite their teachers from their chosen school, to come into Barnabee’s and see the children where they are settled and comfortable. The teachers have a chat with their key worker and gives them insight of their little characters.
At the end of their time with us, they will learn songs and sing them in a graduation service. Its an emotional time especially when they throw their caps in the air. After the performance they are presented with a scroll and keepsake. Its so lovely to see them grow when they pick up their siblings with their parents, very proud moments for the team.

What are children’s interests?
This is where children lead the way to what they would like to have in and around the room, together with the topics set out for our focussed activities. Focussed activities are when the staff plan and set out specific materials to cover areas they have identified, which can be strengths in children’s development and also areas that may need support, the staff can sit with either children in a 1-1 or a group of children, assessing their progress and covering the topic that is planned for the term. We have at least 3 planned focussed activities that are implemented throughout the week, to ensure our full time children have something new to support their interest within the topic.
Our continuous provision is where we ensure all areas of children’s development are covered throughout the room on a daily basis for example building and role play.
